Atharva Farms
Atharva farms is a simple farmstay neatly tucked in a village, overlooking a lake, and surrounded by hills from all the sides. The farmstay is a perfect abode for someone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city life and unwind in nature. You can take long strolls, enjoy plucking fresh vegetables and fruits from the farm, soak in the sun, learn more about regenerative agriculture and possibly swim in the lake.
About
The farm has three bedrooms (with an attached bathroom), a living room and kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with basic utensils and facilities for cooking. Tanaji, who is the caretaker stays in a separate room on the property with his family, and will be present at all hours should you need any assistance.
Morning breakfast with Tea/Coffee is complimentary and is served around 9:00am. Once the booking is confirmed, the menu for breakfast will be finalized based on your interest.
Options for Food:
1. You can use the kitchen should you wish to cook. The amenities provided are basic. We recommend you to carry some groceries on your way since the village stores offer basic ingredients.
2. Two of the village dhabas/restaurants deliver at the farm and we happily recommend placing an order for food at these restaurants to our guests.
3. We can arrange for a cook if the guests wish to savor simple home cooked Maharashtrian food. We request the guests to inform us well in advance if they wish to avail this option so that we can check on the availability of the cook. (Additional charges applicable)
4. There are a couple of good restaurants few kilometers from the farm. We can surely recommend some should you wish to dine outside.
Access to the property
The guests will have access to either a private room (with attached bathroom) or the entire property (3 bed rooms, hall and kitchen) based on the type of reservation.
Note: If the guests have only availed for a private room, the hall and kitchen area remain accessible. (Hall and Kitchen are commonly shared)
Farm tours
Permaculture Farm Tours:
Atharva Farms has been designed on the principles of Permaculture (Perma: Permanent and culture: agriculture/way of life) and we love to walk our guests through the techniques that have been implemented at the farm that has benefitted us immensely in improving the productivity of land, making efficient use of slopes and harnessing the potential of nature.
During the farm tour, we talk about the following:
1. Introduction to ethics and principles of Permaculture/ regenerative farming and application of each principle
2. Importance and application of mulching
3. Utilization of slopes
4. Building stone structures (check dams, bunds, gabion walls and boomerangs) to reduce soil erosion on slopes
5. Need for diversity
6. Greywater treatment through natural techniques
7. Composting
8. Natural pathways for slope stabilization
9. Trellis
10. Seed Bank
11. Nursery
12. Soil and nutrient building
We have designed a scavenger hunt to engage people of all age groups (especially kids) where they will hunt for some 'natural' treasures, explore the hidden corners of the farm, and learn a thing or two about living in the wild.
Is it even a farm tour if you have not soiled your hands? The tour will involve a small farm activity based on the current activities on the farm- sowing seeds, processing, harvesting etc to give you a glimpse of what life at Atharva Farms on a usual day looks like.
The tour ends with some souvenirs and guests can shop from the range of products we sell at the farm.
